Slow Water is a Fair Trade business

We develop, import, and sell (wholesale and retail) fair trade products from Ecuador as well as Japanese-made eco-products with the hachidori logo.  We provide products made by more than 10 handicrafts groups based on four forest preservation groups.  If we include suppliers of raw materials such as cocoa, tagua nuts, and sisal hemp, there are many more than 10.  We aim to learn from local people who have chosen to engage in ecologically conscious business.  We aim to make what we need for the culture and lifestyle we want to create.  We do our best to deliver our products with the message of the landscape, sounds, and smells of Ecuador — knowing the background of the products is fun!  Every year, we donate 1% of our profits to the Sloth Club.  Three executives of our company are also members of the Board of Directors of the Sloth Club.

SWC_productIn conventional trade, people are connected to each other but often through relationships that include exploitation of nature and culture.  In contrast, we have set up both for-profit and non-profit ventures in order to create people-to-people trade, where we can enrich each others’ lifestyles and sustain the Earth.

At our cafe Kita-no-Hachidori (located in Oji, Tokyo), we aim to create a community cafe through Fair Trade business and by developing menus, selling products, and organizing workshops to share what have learned from Ecuador.  What we learned from Ecuador is the value of a grounded, solid, and peaceful life.  We try to put this essence into everything we do at Kita-no-Hachidori.
